Salesforce Field Service Alternative for Mid-Market

The licence is the smallest number in the quote

Salesforce Field Service runs 150 to 300 dollars per user per month for FSL, on top of the Salesforce licence stack, on a sales-led annual contract with multi-year discounts. Implementation runs 6 to 18 months and typically requires a certified Salesforce partner, with fees from 50,000 to over 500,000 dollars.

Its strengths are real: deep Salesforce CRM integration, enterprise-grade security and compliance, and an enormous partner ecosystem. If you are an enterprise already standardised on Salesforce with 500 or more technicians, this is a coherent and defensible choice.

Where it stops making sense

Total cost of ownership scales fast. Salesforce licences plus FSL plus system integrator fees plus Lightning Console complexity adds up to an effective 300 to 1,000 dollars per user per month. Implementation needs 6 to 18 months and a certified partner, with no self-service customization. And it is built for enterprises already on Salesforce, which makes it overkill for mid-market teams of 10 to 500 technicians who mainly want field operations to work.

What a mid-market alternative changes

Agents built in, not a separate Einstein add-on

Fieldproxy ships voice and chat agents as part of the platform. You describe what needs to happen and the agent does it: build tomorrow's schedule across your technicians, reassign a sick tech's jobs and notify the affected customers, look up a part price and add it to a quote with your markup, work out which invoices are overdue and draft the chase-ups. You confirm, the agent does the clicking.

The packaging difference matters at enterprise scale. AI is part of the platform rather than a separately licensed layer with its own cost and its own limits.

Customize without a certified partner

Rather than picking from packaged fields and templates, you describe the workflow change you want in plain English and the platform builds it. Think of it as Lovable for field service management: the job stages you actually use, the fields your team fills in, the checks required before a job closes, the way your quotes are structured.

Against a model where customization means an SI engagement, this is the difference between adapting in an afternoon and adapting in a quarter.

Live in days, at a fraction of the total cost

Fieldproxy goes live in days rather than 6 to 18 months, and for mid-market deployments the total cost is typically 70 to 85 percent lower once the full Salesforce stack, partner fees and ongoing customization are counted.

A note on the figures. Vendor pricing and packaging change, and several of these vendors are sales-led rather than publishing rates, so treat this as a starting point for your own shortlist and confirm current numbers directly.

When Salesforce Field Service is the right answer

You are already all-in on Salesforce, your CRM is the system of record the business runs on, you have 500 or more technicians, and you have the budget and internal capability for a partner-led programme. Then the integration depth is worth the cost. If you are mid-market and mainly need field operations to work, the economics stop making sense well before the features do.
