Can ChatGPT plan routes for field technicians?

Updated September 27, 2026

Short answer

Not from a pasted list with any accuracy: ChatGPT alone has no drive times or technician locations. Connected to Fieldproxy through MCP, ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot plan daily routes per technician with drive times, check live locations and routes, and find which service zone an address falls in. Routes are applied only after you confirm.

What to ask

  • "Plan tomorrow's routes for the North region."
  • "How long from the depot to the Riverside site at 8am?"
  • "Where are my technicians right now?"
  • "Which zone is 42 Harbour Road in?"

How it works

The assistant uses plan_day_routes and apply_schedule, drive_time, technician_locations and technician_route, geocode_address and zones_for_location.

Anything that changes data or sends a message is shown to you first and happens only after you confirm; writes can be undone, and every call is logged.

FAQ

Questions

Is AI route planning the same as dispatch?
Route planning orders one technician's stops. Dispatch decides who goes where across the team. Fieldproxy's MCP server does both.
