What do you do when a technician calls in sick?

List the sick technician's visits, find who is free with the right skills, and move each visit to them while keeping the customer's time slot. In Fieldproxy's Command Center you ask once, confirm a card showing the change, and can undo it with one click.

This walkthrough shows a sick call handled in Command Center at Summit Home Services, a demo HVAC, plumbing and electrical company: finding the technician's visits and who is free, moving a visit through a confirm card, and undoing it.

Chapters

Summit Home Services is a demo company with fictional customers. Every screen is the real Fieldproxy product; some sequences are sped up.

Step by step

  1. Ask who can cover

Type that the technician is out and ask who can cover. Command Center lists their visits for the day and checks every technician with the same skills.

  2. Pick a free technician

It shows who is free, who is busy and with what, plus skills and booked hours.

  3. Move the visit

Ask to give a visit to a free technician. A card shows the visit, the time and the new technician; nothing changes until you confirm.

  4. Confirm

Confirm the card. The visit keeps its time slot and moves to the new technician, with a link to the job.

  5. Undo if plans change

Click Undo on the card and confirm; the visit is put back the way it was.

Questions people ask

How do I find who can cover a sick technician?
Ask Command Center. It lists the sick technician's visits and checks every technician with matching skills for that day, showing who is free and who is busy.
Does the customer lose their appointment time?
No. Moving the visit to another technician keeps the same date and time slot.
Can the AI change the schedule without me?
No. Every change appears as a card that waits for your confirmation, and nothing changes until you confirm it.
Can I undo a reassignment?
Yes. Every confirmed change has an Undo, with an are-you-sure step, and puts the visit back the way it was.
How long does it take to set up?
Fieldproxy builds your own field service management system around your workflows, and it can be live within a day.
Is Summit Home Services a real company?

  1. 0:00What do you do when a technician calls in sick at six in the morning?
  2. 0:04You find who's free with the right skills, move the visits, and keep every customer's time slot. Usually that means a whiteboard and a stack of phone calls. Here it takes two sentences, on a demo heating, plumbing and electrical company.
  3. 0:20Danny just called in sick for tomorrow. Two customers are counting on him.
  4. 0:26Instead of flipping between the schedule and five phone calls, you ask once. It pulls up Danny's two visits for Wednesday, a no-cool call at ten and a furnace tune-up at two, then checks every HVAC technician's day. Three of six are free, and you see their skills, what the busy ones are booked on, and their hours, side by side. Marcus Bell has nothing booked.
  5. 0:49So: give his two o'clock to Marcus Bell.
  6. 0:52Nothing moves on its own. A card shows exactly what will change: Jean Brooks' visit, Wednesday at two, from Danny to Marcus, who is free. If you want someone else, the dropdown lists every technician and whether they're free or busy. Nothing changes until you confirm.
  7. 1:09Confirm, and it's done. Jean keeps her time slot, Marcus gets the job, and the card links straight to it.
  8. 1:17And if Danny feels better by morning? Every change has an Undo.
  9. 1:20One are-you-sure, so nothing flips by accident, and it's put back exactly the way it was.
  10. 1:27A sick call used to cost a morning. Now it's two sentences, a confirm, and an Undo if you need it. Get your own custom field service management within a day, tailored to your workflows. Start at fieldproxy dot ai.
