The challenge
A large construction project is spread across packages and work fronts, and supervision happens on site, not in an office. The project team needed to know that people marking attendance were actually on the project, and needed a dependable record of site work such as curing, with photos, that it could pull up by package.
What we built
Fieldproxy set the system up around the project rather than a template. The project's own boundary file was loaded so attendance only works inside the mapped site area, a curing details workflow was added for site staff to log curing with photos each day, and live location and reports were arranged by the project's packages.
The results
- Trial users on site from June 2021
- Attendance tied to the project's own mapped boundary
- Curing records with photos captured from site every day
- Moved to Fieldproxy's newer platform in January 2023 with the same setup
The job: supervising a construction project from the site
Royal HaskoningDHV designs and manages infrastructure. On a construction project, much of its team's work happens on site: supervising packages, checking work as it is done and keeping the record the client relies on. That record has to be right about two things, who was on site, and what was done there.
Generic attendance apps answer neither question well. They accept a check-in from anywhere, and they have no idea what curing is. The project team wanted a system that knew where the project was and what its site staff actually record.
What we built: a system shaped around one project
Everything starts from the project's own map. The project's boundary file was loaded into Fieldproxy, so the app knows the site area of each package and attendance can only be marked inside it. A check-in from anywhere else is simply not accepted.
Geo-fenced attendance
Site staff mark attendance in the mobile app, and it only works within the project's mapped boundary, so the attendance record is also a record of presence on site.
Curing details
A workflow built for curing: site staff log each day's curing against the work it belongs to, with photos taken on site.
Live location
Managers can see where their site teams are through the working day.
Reports by package
Attendance and curing records are reported by the project's packages, so the team can pull up exactly the part of the project it needs.
How the work flows now
Site staff arrive at their package and mark attendance, which the app accepts only inside the project boundary. Through the day they log curing with photos from the work front. Managers follow where their teams are and pull up attendance and curing by package when they need it.
When the project needed something new, such as the curing record, it was added to the same system after a visit to the project office, instead of starting another tool.
How it went
Trial
First site users on the trial.
Next

Today
Running on the newer Fieldproxy platform.
